STRATEGIC EVENT MARKETING: Driving Teacher Readiness: Minneapolis 500
Watch this video to view footage from an exclusive event held at an indoor go-kart race track in conjunction with the 2014 National Association for the Education of Young Children Professional Development Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Hatch Minneapolis 500 event congratulated recent iStartSmart School Readiness Award-winning educators who are driving teacher readiness.
These customers are the most engaged with using technology in their classrooms. They spoke during the event to peers and high-ranking prospects from the conference who were invited to the event. Guests boarded a luxury motor coach to ProKart Indoor Racing, Minnesota’s premier indoor karting venue. Once there they were treated to a full course dinner and given free reign in a go-kart to race around a ¼-mile long indoor track. After dinner, attendees got to test drive new Hatch iStartSmart® 4.0 tablets, Interactive Displays and Multi-touch Tables to enter into a contest to win a new Hatch tablet at the end of the night! << --- 100% Invitation Response Rate |
TRADE SHOW MARKETING: Technology Learning Zone at NHSA
I created the concept of an Interactive Technology Learning Zone at the 2014 National Head Start Association (NHSA) trade show while reading the list of sponsorship options. Instead of sponsoring the association's proposed hands-on class inside the exhibit hall, I negotiated with show management to develop the content, fill the space with Hatch educational technology, erect the stage, bring the professional trainer, and rename it the Interactive Technology Learning Zone. As the manager of our Gold Partner MDF relationship with Microsoft Corporation, I arranged for the co-sponsorship of the 2014 event and a trainer from Microsoft flew in to join our trainer on stage. The Interactive Technology Learning Zone drew people into the exhibit hall and foot traffic doubled over prior years.
We brought the event back to the 2015 show with a Head Start Live talk show theme, flying in our two most engaged, top performing Head Start teachers to interview them on stage during the sessions and treat them like celebrities. The result was an even bigger hit than the year before and the Hatch booth was often the main draw into the exhibit floor. Thanks to the success of the idea, show management has now incorporated the Hatch Interactive Technology Learning Zone as an annual fixture on the show floor. Results:

The Parade Patrol: Jennifer Kiger and Kami Periman
Article printed in Winston-Salem Magazine November 2011
Come out to the annual Jaycees Holiday Parade, and you’re bound to see a little bit of magic filing through the downtown streets. There’s stunning floats, spirited marching bands, beauty queens, city leaders, and—of course—Santa Claus himself.
What you probably won’t see, though, are the two women currently responsible for bringing that magic to life: Jennifer Kiger and Kami Periman.
Both Jaycee members, the two spend the day in a state of Christmas chaos: registering entrants, aligning floats, directing traffic, and dealing with any disasters that erupt. "It’s a lot of fun, but it’s kind of bittersweet," Periman says, laughing. "We spend months planning the parade and then don’t get to see hardly any of it."
She adds that this year’s parade is shaping up to be the best in recent memory. The Jaycees have reached out to several local businesses for sponsorships, and the response has been incredibly positive thus far. "We have absolutely no budget to work with," Kiger explains. "So the key is to be creative when it comes to making ends meet. I guess in our own way, we’re kind of a part of this city’s history," she adds. "There’s always going to be a Christmas parade. We’re just the ones who get to make it happen this year."
The parade starts at 5 p.m. on Dec. 3 and is followed by the city’s tree lighting ceremony in Corpening Plaza. For more info, go to www.wsparade.org.
